It has been a very strange year but those of you born in this millennia, and who live in Australia, you thankfully have not seen war such as WW1 or WW2, or many of the sad events of the 20th century. Be positive as you are now a graduate, and be even more focused on becoming part of a new Australia which has fought, and mostly overcome, the trials of 2020. Best of luck!!!

Reecha Rimal

While we may not have had the opportunity to stand in front of Bool and accept our degrees as our peers in the past, the act of making it through to the end of our studies is an accomplishment we should all be proud of. Finalising my degree in January saw me graduate into an uncertain world with COVID-19 requiring future plans to be re-routed. I must thank the Student Access and Inclusion department and my lecturers in the History Department for their assistance throughout my B.A. experience. I am now continuing through to a Master of History at UNE and look forward to many more years of excellent education from one of the best universities in Australia for distance learning.

Congratulations to everyone for not only surviving 2020, but also graduating… now it’s our time to thrive!
“In order for our lives to go forward, in order to engage fully in life, we need to be willing and able to accept what is right in front of us. Whatever it is, the good, the bad, the thrilling, the heartbreaking, every emotion, occurrence, event, person, place or thing, you will experience them all… You accept influence and then you exert influence. You can’t make a cloudy day a sunny day, but can embrace it and decide it’s going to be a good day after all. If life gives you lemons, grab it by the horns and drive — and yes, I just mixed three metaphors. I was a C-student.” – Jane Lynch

Congratulations! You’ve made it. All your hard work has paid off. The late nights (or all-nighters) commitment and dedication have lead you here. Be proud!! Sorry you don’t get a formal graduation but enjoy this time, good luck in your future endeavours.
Zara Gilkison
Bachelor of Social Science
Wow! What a challenge the last couple of years have been. To be able to graduate whilst the whole world has been turned on its head is a massive achievement for everyone. Simpler times required many of us to do our time in college followed by being an affiliate in town whilst still annoying that college, then often (me) finish with a couple of external units. I can’t understate for those of us who commenced our UNE studies on-campus that as the years and decades pass the fond memories only continue to build. Welcome to the memory building club – and may your memories embellish every year to come. Congratulations and enjoy whatever moment you can use to celebrate your success.

I just want to say a HUGE well done to everyone who stuck it out to graduate in 2020!!!
It certainly was a tough year! I myself came close to dropping out with the challenges of life and COVID, navigating studies, work and home school with 2 children. It seemed easy to just give up the study, but I didn’t I stuck it out and what a great feeling it was to finish my degree and what an awesome way to end a horrible year! So well done to each and every one of you for putting in the hard work and graduating in 2020!!!
Jessica Connors
Bachelor of Education, 2020
This morning feels so unreal and is a realized dream form my teenage years. Developing independence, confidence, resilience, and courage were so worth it for the long run.
Each one of us graduating today has had to sacrifice, manage and compromise to succeed, especially this year during the COVID-19 pandemic, and each of us learnt and took something individual from our time at UNE.
I would like to thank my parents, family, and friends for their constant moral support. I dreamt of a graduation ceremony with them beside me. I hope they are proud as I am.
The biggest thanks we owe however is to ourselves! If we hadn’t had a strong determination to achieve our goal or take that leap of faith and backed ourselves then we wouldn’t be here today as graduates.
So the next time we face anything that feels impossible, daunting, or outside of our comfort zone, let us all remember that we have felt that way before, we didn’t let it define and defeat us, and we can continue to overcome any challenges we put our minds to.
Congratulations once again class of 2020 and wish you all good luck in the future ahead. Have a great rest of the day.

Finishing a degree is not easy and yet, here you are. I am so gosh darn proud of each and every one of you.
