Sports Award Nominations

The Bill Hanlan Shield shall be presented to a student of UNE who, while displaying good sportsmanship, has achieved a higher level of accomplishment in sport than all other UNE students. This achievement must have occurred during the twelve months preceding the award and while the student was enrolled at the University.

This award will be presented to the club affiliated with SportUNE or a UNE college that represents the University in a regular Armidale or regional competition. In the opinion of the Blues Committee, this club must have achieved the most during the past twelve months or current season in regular competitions.

This award will be presented to the UNE team, in the opinion of the Blues Committee, who have achieved at the highest level during university competition over the past twelve months. The committee may consider a joint award.

Blue: The Blue shall be awarded to members who have shown outstanding ability, typically when representing the University, and who have reached a standard comparable to that generally achieved by the best sportspersons in other Australian universities. Additionally, to be eligible for the award of a Blue, a member shall have displayed good sportsmanship and support for the UNE Club making the nomination or contributed towards sport at UNE.

Half Blue: The Half Blue shall be awarded to members who, typically when representing the University, have achieved a standard in their sport well above average for Australian universities. Additionally, to be eligible for the award of a Half Blue, a member shall have displayed good sportsmanship and support for the UNE Club making the nomination or contributed towards sport at UNE.

To qualify for a Club Honours Award, a nominee must have made an exceptional contribution to the organisation and administration of a UNE Sporting Club over a sustained period, including the year of nomination.

Minimum Qualification: Level 1 Accreditation.

1. Demonstrated application of appropriate and accepted training theory and coaching principles to improve the performance level of the team or athlete.
2. Demonstrated coaching success with a team, including winning a competition or showing clear improvement of the team from one season to the next, or within a season.
3. Evidence of attracting players to the club and maintaining members to develop the club.
4. Active participation in the affairs of the club.
5. Clear record of achievements in the year under review.
6. Presentation of a positive image of coaching and the role of the coach.
7. Nominees must be coaches of UNE teams or UNE College teams competing at a local, regional, or higher competition level.

1. The nominee must have made an outstanding contribution to Mary Bagnall or President’s Trophy sport as a student of the University of New England over a sustained period, including the year of nomination.
2. The nominee must show clear evidence of possessing organisational skills in relation to Intercollegiate Sport for a minimum period of one year, preferably as an MB/PT representative.

1. This award recognises an individual or group that has engaged with SportUNE in the positive promotion and development of sport and physical activity at UNE and the wider community.
2. Nominees will have undertaken a substantial effort to support the delivery of a program, event or competition of significant merit.
3. Feedback from relevant clubs, organisers or participants has been overwhelmingly positive towards the nominee, which has been instrumental in contributing to a successful program, event or competition.

1. Nominees must demonstrate a proven capacity to liaise effectively with SportUNE.
2. Evidence of collaborating with counterparts in other institutions (where applicable) and/or engaging with sport organisers/Presidents of UNE Clubs or Colleges.
3. Demonstrated evidence of possessing appropriate leadership qualities and organisational skills through club management or active involvement in SportUNE Administration.
4. Evidence of promoting the good name of SportUNE and the University within the wider community.
5. Evidence of making a general contribution to sport.
6. Nominees are expected to be Members of SportUNE.

1. To be eligible for the Sports Recognition Award, a nominee must have made an “all-round” contribution to sport at UNE, either as a participant or administrator. It is expected that the nominee will have been actively involved with SportUNE for a sustained period, including the year of nomination. The minimum criterion as a participant is representation in three sports in local/regional competition or at Intervarsity Championships/Games.
2. Nominees should be members of SportUNE. However, in exceptional circumstances, the Blues Committee will consider a nomination from a person other than a Member who has made a major contribution to University sport.

The award will be presented to the University Team that, in the opinion of the Blues Committee, has achieved the most in representing UNE during the past twelve months or current season in regular competitions. If a University College team represents the University in a regular Armidale or Regional competition, the College team will be eligible for nomination for the award.

1. Outstanding service to umpiring during the SportUNE netball competitions, both Mixed and Women’s.
2. Clear record of achievements in the year under review.
3. Presentation of a positive image of umpiring and the role of the umpire.
4. Nominees will be umpires from colleges or the community participating in the SportUNE Netball Competitions.

1. Demonstrated application of going above and beyond their role as a player, contributing significantly to the sport through coaching, umpiring, club administration, or a combination of these endeavours.
2. Evidence of attracting players to their club and maintaining members to develop the club.
3. Clear record of achievements in the year under review.
4. Presentation of a positive image of netball.
5. Nominees will be players of either college or community teams competing within the SportUNE Netball Competitions.

2. Commitment and effort to the team.
3. Social contribution to the team (i.e., a good team person).
4. Regular attendance at training and weekly games.
5. Courtesy towards fellow teammates and officials.
6. Mindfulness of other players’ needs.
7. Keen interest in advancing their netball skills.
8. Commitment and genuine interest in the game.
9. Good sportsmanship, including accepting umpires’ decisions and coaches’ position placements at all times.
